Yin Flow Yoga Course

A combination of Hatha and Yin Yoga Asanas, Pranayama and meditation in a flowing sequence, creating a sense of health and wellbeing
No previous yoga experience is needed and beginners are welcome
A Yin Yoga Flow class begins with pranayama (breathwork) to help calm the mind and focus the breath. The first part of the class focuses on warming the body with a hatha flow sequence to help prepare the body for the longer held floor-based yin postures in the second part of the class.
Yin Yoga is inspired by ancient Chinese Taoist practices including the system of meridians and 5 elements theory in which stretches are held for 3-5mins. Paulie Zink first introduced Yin to the West in the 1970’s and those influenced by him such as the world’s leading Yin Yoga teachers of today including Paul Grilley, Bernie Clark, Norman Blair and Sarah Powers have developed it into a very popular form of yoga practice ideal for today’s fast paced world.
Yin postures are mostly seated, supine or low to the ground, gentle stretches and holds. The hatha (yang) poses work on the superficial musculature of the body while the yin poses work on the deeper musculature of the connective tissue (ligaments, tendons and fascia) in the body.
Benefits of Yin Yoga
• Longer held poses allow more access to the ligaments and tendons surrounding the joints, as well as the fascia (home to the energetic body of the Chinese system of meridians, fascia is a system of connective tissue wrapped around muscles, internal organs and joints).
• As fascia is stimulated and manipulated, felt changes occur and chi/energy/prana flows more easily in the body. When chi/energy/prana flows more easily, we feel more spacious and well.
• Gain a deeper understanding of one’s own body and help release areas of blockage or tension
• Gain an understanding of the energy within the yin poses and how to approach each pose in order to gain maximum benefit.
• Develop patience, stillness and presence of mind.
• Being present with one pose for longer, allows the student to meditate on felt sensation in the body, the movement of the mind, or the teacher’s guided contemplation
• Yin is good for the soul as it brings us to a greater sense of well-being because it asks us to slow down and rest.
Whether we arrive at a yin practice to awaken after long periods of stagnation, or to settle down after a lifetime of movement addiction, it can be the perfect balance needed to heal, body, mind and soul. This is a general yoga class, no previous yoga experience is needed and beginners are welcome. You will be encouraged to work at your own pace and to listen to your body’s needs.
