Yoga and Kirtan Circle Workshop

A morning of Hatha Yoga, Breathwork, Kirtan Chanting and Yoga Nidra

Saturday 13th August, 10am-1pm

A combination of Hatha and Yin Yoga Asanas, Pranayama and meditation in a flowing sequence, creating a sense of health and wellbeing

This workshop is an opportunity to explore the traditional hatha yoga postures or asanas and breath control or pranayama as a way to enhance the vital energy or prana in the body, increase flexibility of the muscles and joints and strengthen the body, mind and spirit. Hatha yoga can be helpful for conditions such as anxiety, depression, back pain, arthritis, balance, emotional health, menopause, sleep problems, stress management and many more health conditions. 

Kirtan means to come together in praise to sing the name of the higher power of our own understanding. Chanting refreshes the spirit, cleanses the mind and uplifts the soul. As we open our hearts, we experience our natural state of joy and happiness. In essence, Kirtan is joyful meditation where we chant together focusing on mantras in sanskrit accompanied with harmonium and drum. You don’t have to be a good singer to join in, it is not about that, it is about coming together with others’ in community to give thanks to the divine and raise our energetic vibration and create peace in our hearts and minds. 

The workshop schedule is as follows:

10am-10.30am
Pranayama Techniques

10.30am - 11.30am
Physical Asanas in a typical hatha sequence of a sun salutation warm up, standing poses, balancing poses, inversions such as shoulder stand and floor based asanas to support and strengthen the spine and legs.

11.30-11.50 am
Yoga Nidra (Guided Yogic Sleep) for deep relaxation

11.50am - 12.30pm
Vegetarian lunch and sweet treats

12.30pm - 13.00
Kirtan Chanting (Yoga of the heart)
