About Kaya

I have worked with children and young people for most of my professional life (over 20 years), initially as a teacher/educator, including higher education and since 2019 as an integrative child and adolescent counsellor in schools, mental health charities and private practice.

I see counselling as a collaborative process between the counsellor and the client and my role is to support the client in understanding themselves, their emotions and behaviours better. In my work with young people I use various approaches and techniques that I adapt individually to the needs of my clients. These include person-centered approaches, attachment theory, body psychotherapy and psychoeducation. I also incorporate elements of art and play therapy, movement,  mindfulness and breath work into the sessions. I specialise in working with trauma, attachment, anxiety, depression, self-harm, gender identity issues, negative self and body image, low self-esteem, aggressive behaviour, bullying, and offer support during various transitions (e.g. changing schools, relationship break ups) that young people might experience during their teenage years and early adulthood. I also have experience working with neurodivergent clients and with eating disorders, and have a special interest in childhood sexual abuse and the body-mind connection.

Additionally, I offer individual or joint parental consultations sessions to parents whose children I'm currently supporting and to parents who would like to explore and overcome the challenges in their relationship with their children.

In my work with adult clients, apart from traditional talking therapy, I also work creativity using art and play, and focus on working with different parts of the client and inner child work. As a Reiki Level 2 practitioner, I can offer a combined energy and counselling work.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and abide by their codes of practice, ethics and continued professional development.
