A summer programme over five weeks, inspiring young people to overcome school based stress, anxiety, low self esteem, confidence and friendship issues. The course offers tools, strategies and techniques to start the new term confidently. This course is for children aged 11-16 and includes a mix of fun creative activities, games and talking techniques that support: – Understanding emotions - especially anxiety, overwhelm and stress – Learning coping strategies and tools – Confidence building – Communication skills – Social skills – The power of thoughts and how they affect our feelings and behaviour The programme is designed with flexibility to connect with individual needs and approaches. The course is lead by Laura Buckingham, an experienced Counsellor and Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and she will liaise with you prior to the group. Drinks and healthy snacks will be provided within the cost of the programme. Please let me know if your child has any specific allergies. There are many reasons our young people are increasingly finding school overwhelming and stressful – the pandemic has heightened some of the existing pressures of learning and succeeding, friendship issues and self esteem, fitting into the school system that isn't right for their needs or neuro-diversity. In response to this, certain anxiety and overwhelm behaviours can emerge, which are tough for students and parents alike. These might be: – not wanting to get up and get ready – refusing to leave for school – disliking crowds – worrying about small issues – feeling sick, or having stomach aches or headaches – not sleeping well – not completing schoolwork, or grades dropping – being angry, upset, or acting out – at school or at home – withdrawing or seeming low – quiet or depressed – negative self talk Laura has worked extensively with young people, schools and parents to teach strategies for managing challenging times, helping young people to grow in confidence and resilience, and find ways feel happier and more relaxed.
